I had previously read Man In Profile: Joseph Mitchell Of The New Yorker by Thomas Kunkel and was stunned that I had never read any of his writing nor even knew of the man. I purchased this book and it includes four books, McSorley’s Wonderful Saloon, Old Mr. Flood, The Bottom of the Harbor, and Joe Gould’s Secret as well as several other stories.
These book gives the reader an excellent overview of New York and the people that made it what it was in the decades of the 1920’s through 1950’s. I am currently reading McSorley’s Wonderful Saloon and discovering the colorful history of this New York landmark. Here is the wikipedia website to discover more: McSorleys Saloon
