The Smartest Kids in the World and How They Got That Way     Amanda Ripley

This book came out a couple of weeks ago and explores what other countries are doing to increase learning for their students. The book explores three students and their travels to Finland, South Korea and Poland. The challenges these students faced are brought to light such as South Koreans going to school twelve hours a day. The book does include hard data to back up its findings and I believe this to be an excellent book if you are at all interested in education.

The Sports Gene     David Epstein

This book brings the most recent genetic research and how it relates to athletic performance. What led me to this book was the 10,000 hour rule that Malcolm Gladwell has written about and its effects on performance. Genetic research in this area appears to be in its infancy but this should be interesting reading.
